Mount Kailash, located in Tibet, is the most sacred peak in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon religion. The yatra (pilgrimage) to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey.

Although Mount Kailash itself is in Tibet, some travelers begin their journey from Dharchula, India, particularly for the Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra before crossing into Nepal or Tibet for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

DETAILS ITINERARY

📍Routes to Mount Kailash from Dharchula

1️⃣ India Route: Dharchula → Gunji → Lipulekh Pass → Tibet (Kailash)
✅ Managed by the Government of India (MEA - Kailash Mansarovar Yatra).
✅ Requires a long journey and approval from the Indian and Chinese governments.
✅ Currently, this route is restricted for Indian citizens due to border regulations.

2️⃣ Nepal Route: Dharchula → Kathmandu → Tibet (Kailash)
✅ The most popular route now due to easier permits.
✅ Travel via Simikot, Hilsa (Nepal) or by road from Kathmandu to Tibet.
✅ Available via private tour operators.



🗺️ Nepal Route Itinerary: Dharchula to Mount Kailash

🚗 Day 1: Dharchula → Kathmandu (By Road or Flight)
Travel by road or take a flight to Kathmandu. Overnight stay in Kathmandu, Nepal.

🚁 Day 2: Kathmandu → Nepalgunj (By Flight / Road)
Visit Pashupatinath Temple for blessings. Take a flight (or drive) to Nepalgunj.

🚁 Day 3: Nepalgunj → Simikot (By Flight), Simikot → Hilsa (Helicopter), Hilsa → Purang (Tibet)
Flight to Simikot (Humla district, Nepal). Take a helicopter to Hilsa, the Nepal-China border. Cross into Tibet and travel to Purang (acclimatization day).

🚙 Day 4: Purang → Lake Mansarovar (Drive - 85 km)
Drive to Lake Mansarovar (4,590m altitude). Take a holy dip & perform puja at the sacred lake. Overnight stay near Mansarovar.

🚶 Day 5: Lake Mansarovar → Darchen (Drive - 35 km), Kailash Trek Begins
Drive to Darchen, the base camp for Mount Kailash. Prepare for the Kailash Parikrama (52 km trek around the mountain).

🏔️ Day 6-8: Kailash Kora (Parikrama - 3 Days)
Day 1: Darchen → Dirapuk (Trek - 18 km, 5-6 hrs)
Day 2: Dirapuk → Dolma La Pass → Zuthulpuk (Trek - 22 km, 8-10 hrs)
Day 3: Zuthulpuk → Darchen (Trek - 12 km), return to Purang.

🚗 Day 9-10: Return Journey
Travel back via Purang → Hilsa → Simikot → Kathmandu → Dharchula.
Yatra concludes with the divine blessings of Lord Shiva. 🙏
